KAMPALA – Yvonne Chaka Chaka’s much anticipated music performance at Buganda Kingdom end of year show is in the balance after she was blocked by security agencies on Tuesday morning from doing her final music rehearsal, PML Daily has learnt.

The legendary South African artiste arrived in the country on Monday ahead of Tuesday’s performance at the Buganda Kingdom’s Enkuuka Y’Omwaka.

But the singer, who was booked into Pearl of Africa Hotel, was on Tuesday morning blocked by armed men as she attempted to conduct a sound check.

Security forces are said to have cordoned off the hotel and ordered her to stop her rehearsal. They also demanded all staff and journalists present to switch off their phones or they be confiscated. The armed men then demanded to speak to her in private. We could not immediately establish where this was to be done.

We could not immediately establish from police or UPDF about the action. Other security sources said the artiste could be deported over sympathizing with People Power movement leader Robert Kyagulanyi, aka, Bobi Wine.

While in Kampala last year, Chaka Chaka referred to Bobi Wine as Uganda’s Nelson Mandela.

The legendary singer revealed that the Kyadondo East MP is a very much admired icon in South Africa and is often linked to South Africa’s apartheid freedom fighter Nelson Mandela.

Kyagulanyi later performed along South African legend Yvonne Chaka Chaka at Serena hotel.

The charity concert organised by Shule Foundation was aimed at raising funds to build a school for former street kids.
