24-year old lady beaten to death for stealing Smart Phone

KISORO – A twenty-four old women was on Friday, December 27th, 2019 severely beaten by a mob in Kisoro Municipality in Kisoro District and suffered serious injuries that led to her death.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate confirmed the death of Ruhangariho Emily 24 years, a resident of Matyazo village in Rugarambiro Parish in Nyundo Sub County in Kisoro.

Ruhangariho was assaulted by a mob on suspicion of stealing an Infinix Hot 7 phone belonging to Niyonshuti Shallon a resident of Kanyenka village in Muramba Sub County also in Kisoro District.

The incident took place at Phionah’s bar located in Nyaruyanga Village in Nyamagana Ward in Central Ward of Kisoro Municipality where the duo was relaxing from.

“After learning about the incident, the Police rushed to the scene and rescued the victim who had been seriously beaten by a mob and rushed her to Kisoro Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival” Maate explained.

Maate said that the Police recovered a sweater and shoes belonging to the deceased as exhibits and arrested the Bar owner Tumwesigye Phionah in whose premises the incident took place to help with the investigation.

Maate said that the case of murder has been registered at Kisoro Police under reference number CRB 938/2019 to help in further investigation.

By the time of writing this story, the body of Ruhangariho Emily was still lying at Kisoro Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post mortem report to be carried out.
