BUNDIBUGYO —Two women are feared dead after they were swept away by a landslide that hit Kisoro District on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.

Oliver Nyiramutuzo, 28, and Flora Nyamishana, 36, were weeding in a millet garden around 2pm when a mudslide occurred in Bikokora village, Nteko parish, Nyabwishenya subcounty, sweeping them away into River Rwafi that moves to the neighbouring DR Congo.

According to police, their bodies are yet to be recovered.

The two women were with one Silvia, wife of Stanley Balitonda, who survived the landslide.
Nyamishana’s three-month baby also survived the landslide and was rushed to Nteko health center for treatment.

According to Mr George Bahinyiza, the LC5 councilor for Nyabwishenya subcounty, the landslide came after three hours of heavy rain.
The hunt for the 2 people believed to be dead is on, he said.

Meanwhile, a massive landslide has been reported in Bundibugyo District. According to Red Cross, the areas affected are Bundibugyo Town council, Tokwe S/County (Hakitala and Bundirume villages), Busaru Subcounty (Busengerwa & Bugombwa villages), Bubukwanga (Humya) and Bukonzo S/county (Huhundu vIllage).
