KAMPALA – President has renewed the appointment of the Board of Directors of the Uganda National Oil Company and added another member to the group – Zulaika Mirembe Kasajja, a lawyer.
In a letter dated 12th November addressed to Rebecca Kadaga, the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Museveni urges the House to vet the appointees.
“In exercise of the powers vested in the President by Section 44(1) of the Petroleum (Exploration, Development and Production) Act, I have appointed persons listed below as Chairperson and members of the Uganda National Oil Company. 1. Mr. Emmanuel Katongole, Chairperson 2. Mr. Francis Nagimesi, Member 3. Ms. Biwaga Stella Marie Member 4. Eng. Irene Pauline Batebe Member 5. Mr. Godfrey Andama Member 6. Mr. Francis Twinamatsiko Member 7. M. Zulaika Mirembe Kasajja –Member. I, hereby, forward their names and Curriculum Vitae for parliamentary approval,” his letter reads in part.
Katongole, an economist and businessman, is a co-founder of Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Limited, a pharmaceutical company.
Nagimesi is a former chief executive officer of the defunct Coffee Marketing Board of Uganda; Twinamatsiko is a principal economist in the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Ms Batebe is a chemical/refinery engineer in the Petroleum Directorate of Uganda; Andama is a senior geoscientist; while Biwaga is a lawyer working with FIDA.
Ms Kasaija, a partner at Kampala Associated Advocates (KAA), is a chartered secretary under the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (UK). She previously worked as an in-house counsel at Dfcu Bank Limited, Warid Telecom and Smile Communications.
