KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni has on Thursday, November 28 commissioned the CCTV cameras at the National Command monitoring centre at Uganda Police Force headquarters in Naguru.

Mr. Museveni said that Cameras will cut down police response time —warning those trying to use crime to discredit the NRM that they opted for a wrong battle ground.

“I don’t know why these people chose to use crime to discredit NRM? That is a wrong battle ground because security is my constituency,” he said.

He also cautioned police officers— warning them on neglecting their duties.

“If you know Uganda is your Fatherland, you cannot neglect your duty. Some people don’t have that feeling. For me, I know all Ugandans and Africans are my family.
If you rape an African woman, I will kill you because she is my grandmother, mother or daughter. If you don’t have these feelings vacate. The Police are cleaned up of those who don’t feel they are here for Ugandans,” Mr. Museveni said.

Museveni also ordered all Police Stations Countrywide to have accessible telephones 24/7.

“The officers on duty should be standby. The police stations should have CCTV cameras as well. I need to monitor their response and how they are doing their work,” he added.

The launch of the surveillance system followed the installation of over 200 live CCTV cameras to monitor Kukoto, Naguru, City Centre, Kamwokya, Lugogo, Ntinda, and sounding areas.T

The move is one of the measures in place to fight urban crime.

The complex is part of the national CCTV project worth over UGX. 400bn
