KAMPALA – President Museveni last week met Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga with a plan to convince her to forfeit her current position for another one in the impending Cabinet reshuffle, PML Daily has learnt.

Mr Museveni on Thursday met Ms Kadaga at his farm in Kisozi, Gomba. The two were seen driving around the farm with the President behind the wheel.

And now highly placed sources have intimated to this website that Mr Museveni tabled before Ms Kadaga his intention to make her Vice President, with the current seat holder Edward Ssekandi, 77, having indicated to the head of state that he intends to retire.

Sources said in an interaction that last several hours, the President was trying to convince Ms Kadaga that she should change to another position, having served as speaker for two terms. The Speakership, sources said, is reserved for current Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

However, sources said Ms Kadaga told the President that she would rather remain Speaker of Parliament.

Sources added that Mr Museveni early last week also held several other senior officials, including Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda and ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party secretary general Justine Kasule Lumumba, Chief Justice Bart Katureebe and Deputy Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo.

Sources said such meetings with only a few high profile members are rare and therefore, indicate that a critical Cabinet decision is on the way.

With Justice Katureebe set to retire next year sources said, the President wants his deputy, Justice Owiny-Dollo, to replace him. Sources said many other changes are expected in Cabinet soon.
