The accident occurred in the wee hours of Tuesday, October 15 at Hakagyezi stream along Hamurwa Kerere road toll.

The truck which was transporting people from Kanungu to Karukara market lost control when the driver decided to reverse after noticing that the stream had overflown.

The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate identified the deceased as Ester Kumara believed to be in her 30s and Ndereya Ngabirano 24, both from Kanungu.

Mr. Maate said the bodies were taken to Kabale Referral Hospital for post mortem and the four injured whose particulars are yet to be established were rushed to Hamurwa Health Centre IV are reportedly in stable condition.

According to Maate, the accident might have been a result of the loss of poor vision due to mist, or the driver may have been tired and fell asleep while driving or he may have been over speeding.

The vehicle is parked at Rubanda Police Station, while the driver only identified as Alex is on the run.
