One killed in hit and run accident in Kabale

KABALE – Kigezi Region Police are investigating circumstances under which a motor vehicle cyclist hit and killed a pedestrian on spot.

The accident occurred on Thursday 03/10/2019 at about 02:30 pm at Kachiro Kamwezi road junction along Kabale – Ntungamo road.

The Kigezi Region Police Mouthpiece Elly Maate identified the deceased as Junior Nabimanya, 23, a resident of Kafuka cell Muhanga Town Council in Rukiga District.

Maate said the Police visited took the body to Kabale Regional  Referral hospital mortuary for post-mortem and later handed it to the family members for burial.

Mr Maate noted that they are yet to identify the motorcycle that caused the accident and that they are hunting for the cyclist too.

“We have already initiated a hunt for a boda boda cyclist who hit and killed this young man and immediately took off. As police we condemn such acts,” he said.

Maate advised the pedestrians to always be conscious whenever they are walking and asked cyclists and drivers to respect and observe road signs and safety measures if such calamities are to be avoided.

The case according to Maate has been recorded at Rukiiga Central Police Station vide TAR 46/19.
