KAMPALA – Makerere University administration has suspended nine students and given a last warning to 26 others, including the Guild Vice President, Ms Judith Nalukwago, following the latest violence at the institution over the 15% tuition fees increment policy.

The administrative action comes after police on Wednesday dispersed a planned meeting by students to discuss the University Council’s decision to waive the tuition fees policy from functional fees. The Guild President, Mr Julius Kateregga, was arrested in the process.

“In light of the recent student unrests and protests against the Fees Policy, Management has taken disciplinary action against some students. The following have been suspended and others warned. Affected students are requested to collect their letters from the Office of the Dean of Students,” a statement from the university reads in part.

The action comes after aggrieved students burnt property of the former Guild President, Papa Were, accusing him of conniving with the university council to approve the tuition policy.

Below is the list of the affected students.
