KAMPALA – The former headteacher of Buddo Junior School has been charged with corruption.
William Kayongo Ssebuliba on Tuesday appeared before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kololo on allegations that he offered Shs1 million to an officer of the Inspectorate of Government so that he could be absolved of alleged diversion and mismanagement of funds.
Kayongo, who is currently the Principal Education Officer of Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipal Council in Wakiso District, is also accused together with the former Town Clerk and other officials of embezzling 300million shillings.
These were funds that the Uganda National Roads Authority compensated to Kigo Prisons Primary School during the construction of Entebbe Express High Way. He allegedly committed the offence on 19th September this year.
However, he denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Shs3 million and ordered to deposit his passport with court. Each of his three sureties who include his wife Beatrice Kayongo, were bonded Shs10 million not cash.
He has been released on bail and will report back to court on 15th November.
