KAMPALA —A kidney patient has on Friday, September 13th, died after jumping off the balcony on the 8th floor at Kiruddu Hospital.
According to Mr. Emmanuel Ainebyona, the Health Ministry’s Senior Public Relations Officer, the deceased was receiving kidney dialysis before he committed suicide.
In a statement to PML Daily, Mr. Aninebyona said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the dialysis team, he was admitted with breathlessness, having missed some dialysis sessions before his admission.
Doctors said he also had pneumonia that health workers were managing, he had shown signs of improvement.
He was waiting for the morning dialysis session before he ended his life.
No further information has been released by the Kiruddu Hospital regarding the death but Mr. Ainebyona has said the cause and circumstances of the individual’s death are still under investigation.
The hospital is in the neighborhood of Kiruddu, on Buziga Hill, in Makindye Division, one of the five administrative units of the Kampala Capital City Authority.
This is approximately 13 kilometres by road, south-east of the Mulago National Referral Hospital.
Because of the rapid expansion of Kampala’s population, and as part of government efforts to improve service delivery to its citizens, the number of public hospitals planned for the city was increased.
In December 2013, the Ugandan government, through the Ministry of Health, contracted China New Era And Metallurgical Joint Venture to construct the hospital. The work was budgeted at an estimated cost of US$15 million (UGX:38 billion).
