KAMPALA — Police have confirmed that Mr. Ezra Anecho, a senior staff at Uganda Cancer Institute who was reported missing on Thursday Morning September 12 was in their custody over traffic offences.

According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Oweyisigire, Mr Anecho was netted by over a hit and run crime he committed some time back and that he arrested at Jinja Road Police Station at on Wednesday 8pm as he headed to MUBS Nakawa to pick his girlfriend.

“Along Legency traffic lights , the vehicle owner chased after him, brought him to Jinja Road Police station,”Mr. Oweyisigire said adding that people who do hit and run are always detained upon arrest.

Mr. Anecho was later given bond on Thursday morning to sort out his issue with the person he knocked as the duo agreed to handle the matter outside the law.

However, UCI gave a different narrative — claiming that he was involved in an accident and robbed of all his items.

“We have found our staff member Ezra Anecho. He was involved in an accident and robbed of all his items. He is alive and recovering from the experience. He is currently with the family,” a brief statement by UCI reads

Police however disputed the statement saying it is full of lies.

“He is lying, he was not robbed, there was a traffic offense he commited and it was a hit and run,” Mr Oweyisigire said challenging him to open up a case on the matter.

“If he was robbed, let him open up an entry then we investigate.”

“He didn’t make that report of him being robbed as he alleges,” he added.

Police said his family had opened up a case at Mulago police station under SD ref 14/12/09/2019.
