KAMPALA — Makerere University is set to hold the third Edition of the Makerere University Endowment Fund Run 2019 (MakRun 2019) on Sunday, September 15 2019.
The former two-time Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. Mondo Kagonyera will on Sunday, 15th September 2019 preside over the Third Edition of the MakRun as Chief Runner!
The former Chancellor who received his kit from the Organising Committee in the on Wednesday September 2019 at his Kampala residence stressed his pride at being associated with Makerere.
“Makerere is home to me and I will be happy to join the staff, students, alumni, friends and well-wishers to raise funds for the Makerere University Endowment Fund” remarked Prof. Kagonyera.
MakRun is geared towards mobilizing funds for the construction of a Students’ Centre worth UGX15 billion to enhance the quality of student life and experience at the Institution.
Addressing journalists during a press conference the Acting Director Planning and Development Mr. Kabuye Matia revealed that MakRun is part of Makerere University’s efforts to continuously engage with its stakeholders, alumni, well-wishers and the community. He called upon the public to participate in the MakRun 2019 as a way of contributing to construction of the multipurpose student’s center.
“MakRun aims at bridging a gap between the university and the public. Just like the previous editions, all proceeds from MakRun 2019 will go towards the construction of the Makerere University Students’ Centre,” said Mr. Kabuye.
He said that proposed Students’ Centre will accommodate conference facilities, a one stop information center with entertainment, recreational and commercial facilities
Mrs. Gloria Nakyeyune Musiitwa, the Secretary Makerere University Endowment Fund noted that they have collected UGX 400,000,000 from the previous runs (2017 and 2018) and the University needs about UGX 7.5 Billion to construct the Center.
She said that the third edition covering 5km and 10km will be flagged off at 6:00am at the Freedom Square and encouraged well-wishers to purchase their tickets before the D-day.
“Tickets for the Run cost UGX 15,000 for students and UGX 25,000 and UGX 50,000 for alumni and well-wishers.
They are sold at several centers including Makerere University Guest House, Makerere University Printery, Makerere University Main Library, Senate Building and Makerere University Main Building,” said Mrs. Musiitwa.
The Acting Manager, Communication and International Relations, Dr. Muhammad Kiggundu Musoke, revealed that the University Council approved the MakRun as an annual event and appealed to the alumni to give back to the University by participating in the MakRun 2019.
MakRun 2019 is organized by Makerere University Endowment Fund.
