KAMPALA – Natete/Rubaga magistrate’s court has on Monday 23 remanded four key suspects in the murder of a social worker Maria Nagirinya and her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa.

The four who include; Coporiyamu Kasolo alias Arsenal, a shoe hawker of Nateete, Johnson Lubega an unemployed youth of Kigaga zone in Nateete, Nassif Kalyango and Hassan Kisseka both boda-boda riders in Kitaka Zone in Nateete appeared before Grade One magistrate Joel Wegoye.

The magistrate read to the accused the charges against them. The magistrate pronounced six charges which include murder, kidnap and aggravated robbery. The accused were not allowed to enter any plea, since the offences are of a capital nature and can only be tried by the High Court.

The four were remanded to Luzira Prison until September 27, when the case comes up for mention again, but the magistrate notified them that they will not be physically brought to court as proceedings will be via video-conferencing at Buganda Road court.

Prosecution states that on the August 28th, 2019 at Nabisasiro Zone in Lubaga Division and Mukono District, the four together with others still at large with an intent to murder, kidnapped Maria Nagirinya and Ronald Kitayimbwa.

The suspects are also said to have used violence to rob Nagirinya of her motor vehicle, her mobile phone and cash amounting to UGX260,000.

Prosecution adds that the four further robbed Kitayimbwa of his mobile phone and his money, UGX24,000.

Nagirinya was kidnapped from the gate of her home in Lungujja-Busega, killed, and her body dumped in Mukono District.

Preliminary findings indicate that Nagirinya and her driver were killed in the car while being driven away by their abductors.

A dozen Police officers were also arrested in connection with this incident following complaints from Nagirinya’s relatives that when they reported the kidnap to the Police, they received no attention, which frustrated any efforts to save her life.
