KAMPALA — A close family member to former Education Minister Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire has dismissed reports of her death — lebelling the information as inaccurate.

The family has too, since released a picture of her with her grandchildren.

The family member confirmed that Ms. Geraldine Namirembe Bitamazire is alive and not dead as widely reported on social media.

Bitamazire is the Chancellor of the Uganda Management Institute.

In a social media statement, UMI also dismissed the death reports as false.

“Hon Namirembe Bitamazire is alive,” management said.

It added: “Please ignore all and any message to the contrary.”

Bitamazire was minister of education from 1979 to 1980 and again from 2005 to 2011.

She also served as the Member of Parliament representing Mpigi District women in the Ugandan Parliament from 2001 to 2011.

Bitamazire is married to Alphonce Bitamazire of the Uganda People’s Defence Force.

She was a member of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women from 1998 to 2001 and is a founding member of the Forum for African Women Educationalists.
