DETECTED: Police retrieves grenades from construction site

KAMPALA – Jinja Road Police under the Counter-Terrorism Bomb Squad Unit have on September 3 recovered three old rusty tortoise grenades.

According to Police, the incident happened at around 17:00 hrs, there was an incident at Bugolobi, Luthuli Avenue, Nakawa Division, Kampala.

“It’s alleged that the property was abandoned for a long time and one Musisi bought the plot recently. He sent his workers to go and get soil samples in preparation for the planned construction,” reads an excerpt from Police’s social media post.

Adding that, “The workers went and while trying to get the samples, they came across a bomb. They informed him and he later contacted Jinja Road Police station, who visited the scene.”

Counter-Terrorism Officers after assessing the area, recovered two others explosives.

“They decided to carry out a controlled explosion on one which was too risky to transport and took two with them,” reads the post in part.

Police has said that there were no injuries, no property destroyed and no death registered.

“We appreciate the vigilance of Musisi’s workers and call upon everybody to be vigilant and always to report any suspicious objects in their environment to Police,” reads an excerpt on the platform.
