GULU – The lead bodyguards’ car belonging to the Deputy Chief Justice, Alphonse Owiny Dollo on Monday evening knocked a motorcyclist who died instantly in Gulu town.

The tragic incident occured along the Gulu-Kampala highway at Layibi yesterday at around 5:40 pm.

The deceased was identified as Saley Webukhuru died on the spot after he was hit by a vehicle Reg No. UG 0646J driven by Komakech Julius, 54.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred due to a reckless driver Mr Wawiyala Isaac of vehicle; number plate UAD 847N.

Eyewitnesses say that Mr Wawiyala made an abrupt turn and in the process the Judge’s convoy which was following closely at the same pace rammed into it, which led the vehicle to lose control and subsequently hit a motorcyclist killing him on impact.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa river region police spokesman confirmed the tragedy and said both of the vehicles and the motorcycle were retrieved and are now parked at Gulu Central Police station.

The victim’s body was taken for postmortem at Gulu regional referral hospital but both of the drivers have been released on police bond according to the regional police spokesman.

“The deceased body was taken to Gulu regional referral hospital’s mortuary pending post-mortem. Both vehicles are parked at Gulu CPS, pending inspection by IOV however, both drivers have been issued police bond,”said Okema.
