Museveni, Chinese delegation discuss investment

KAMPALA – President Yoweri Museveni has held a meeting with a consortium of investors from China, led by Uganda’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Amb. Phoebe Otaala.

During the discussions on Sunday at the President’s country home in Rwakitura in Kiruhura district, the investors expressed interest in taking part in a number of sectors including construction, real estate development, green energy, ceramics, garbage collection and recycling and solar batteries production, among others.

The entrepreneurs also expressed interest in setting up factories especially in paper manufacturing industry, sanitary and cassava export industry.

President Museveni welcomed the entrepreneurs to Uganda and asked them to feel free to invest in the country in such areas like water irrigation projects, institutional housing for health workers, teachers and the Police, among others projects.

High Commissioner Otaala revealed that the Chinese entrepreneurs are keen to participate in the industry of exporting cassava products worth 5 million tonnes annually that could easily fetch the country approximately Shs.700 billion per year.

Ambassador Otaala thanked President Museveni for always leading the promotion of regional market integration and cited the Common Market of Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) whose manufactures the President had strongly encouraged to use one platform to promote goods produced in the region.
