RUKUNGIRI: The Principal Judge, Dr Yorokamu Bamwine, has urged court users to desist from using short cuts when seeking justice. Presided over the Rukungiri Chief Magistrate’s Court Open Day on Thursday, Justice Bamwine said court users must let the formal justice system take precedence to avoid corruption. “At times you tempt hungry lions with meat, the hungry with food. It is a crime to give or receive a bribe,” he said. He also called for vigilance among court users. “Please note that some bad elements sit at court to steal from those who want to cut corners.” The Principal Judge also commended the Rukungiri court leadership for giving court users a platform through the Court Open Day to share concerns and work out solutions together. He also cautioned staff in JLOS institutions to remain professional in the discharge of their mandate. “To you in the JLOS Family, people run to us with challenges. We should never make their situations worse.” The Resident Kabale Judge, Moses Kawumi Kazibwe, and the Rukungiri Chief Magistrate, Moses Kule Lubangula, welcomed the Principal Judge in what they termed as a historic visit to the magisterial area. The Court Open Day, which was attended by representatives of different Justice, Law and Order Sector institutions as well as the district civic and religious leadership, was held under the theme; “Access to Justice is a Pre-requisite to Development.”(1)
