KAMPALA – The administration of Mengo Hospital has dismissed allegations that that the daughter of Pesidential Advisor on Media Matters Tamale Mirundi died due to negligence of doctors at the medical facility.
Monica Namatovu Mirundi died a result of complications after she delivered a baby at Mengo hospital on Saturday. She was buried on Sunday at 4:00pm at Matale, in Kalisizo district.
But in a statement issued on Tuesday, the Mengo Hospital medical director, Dr Rose Mutumba, said Namatovu was attended by a team of specialists during her stay at the hospital.
“The deceased was admitted on 15th June 2019 at 5.30am in early labour. She was managed and monitored by two senior specialists and obstetricians,” Dr Mutumba said.
“Upon delivery of a baby at 7.30am, Namatovu started bleeding profusely. All emergency surgical and resuscitative interventions were carried out by Mengo Hospital team of specialists,” the statement adds.
Dr Mutumba said Namatovu later suffered cardiac arrest, leading to the death.
“Through the admission, the hospital kept the family updated on every step until the moment she suffered cardiac arrest,” she said.
“A family conference was held as the hospital’s standard operating procedures. We commiserate with the family during this trying moment.”
During the burial ceremony, the National NRM Youth Coordinator Eng. Ssewava Mukasa Joseph called for a quick medical report explaining the circumstances over the unbearable news surrounding the death of the young lady.
“Monica Namatovu was such a great person; she will live on in our memories forever. I was deeply saddened by the news of Monica passing. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family,” he said.
While speaking to Dunstan Busuulwa, Top Radio host on Monday evening, Mirundi said his daughter was denied an injection by unprofessional doctors because of Shs600,000 “as if it is much money I would not afford”.
He said the doctors’ refusal to administer an anti-clot injection saw his daughter bleed to death.
“I can look for those doctors and hammer them,” he threatened.
At the burial, People Power was represented by Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko and Chairman Nyanzi who passed on their heartfelt condolences.
