KAMULI – A group is touting Speaker of Parliament Ms Rebbeca Kadaga to run as a sole candidature for woman district member of parliament for Kamuli.

The group, led by a one Lukooki Magezi and Prissy Mwanjuzi used the Speaker’s homecoming fete on Monday, May 13, after recent illness that kept her out of the office for two weeks, to launch the surprising campaign, arguing that Busoga and Uganda needed Ms. Kadaga more than ever before.

Ms. Mwanjuzi, a medically trained nurse urged the voters to give Ms Kadaga “a stress-free environment to enable her to concentrate on development”.

Speaking at the same function on Monday, MPs in the area, led by Kamuli Municipality legislator Hajat Rehema Watongola endorsed the proposal to front Kadaga as a sole candidate.

Speaking after the homecoming fete, Ms Kadaga said:

“It’s such a homecoming to be in Kamuli since I was taken ill. I would like to thank the people of Kamuli and Uganda at large for praying for me while I was in the hospital. I thank all the religious denominations who prayed for [my] healing. Indeed, I was healed. And here I am with you to continue from where I stopped on our development projects.

I thank you very much for standing firm against the naysayers who were spreading all sorts of false information about my health. Our God is great and Mighty”.
