KAMPALA – The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) awaits over UGX143.9 billion from the Finance ministry to be able to change the new curriculum for lower secondary ahead of its implementation in the 2020 academic year.

While appearing before the Parliamentary Education Committee, the executive director of NCDC Ms. Grace Baguma, said that the Education ministry wrote to the Finance ministry last Month to avail them UGX143.9b to facilitate the activities for the rollout of the curriculum.

She revealed that once the new curriculum has been rolled out, the examinations O’level students have been taking will change because of the change in the nature of competence from learners.

She noted that the given amount is slated to fund the centre in developing the new curriculum, fund teacher and instructor education training, instructional material unit and Uganda National Examinations Board.

She also added that 20% will account for continuous assessment by teachers while 80% will account for summative exams students will take.
