Nigeria election: Buhari’s supporter dies of drinking drainage water

ABUJA – Bala Hurana, a die-hard supporter of Nigerian president Mahammadu Buhari who vowed to drink and bath gutter water if Buhari wins is dead.

According to the report, the young man who is in his early 30s complained of abdominal pains and severe stooling of blood days after drinking and bathing the gutter water.

He was subsequently rushed to a nearby clinic but died a few hours later. According to the doctor on duty, there was nothing he could do since he was brought to the clinic very late.

When Bala was fulfilling his pledge of drinking the dirty water, it is said he was advised to stop by a section of the people who had gathered there whiles others cheered him on.

He persisted and to gulf down the gutter water to prove his unflinching love and support for Buhari.

Buhari was declared Nigeria presidential winner by Country’s EC on Wednesday, Feb 26.

According to INEC, the 76-year-old won a second four-year term at the helm of Africa’s largest economy and most populous country.

Buhari, of the ruling All Progressives Congress party, secured 15.1m votes in the February 23 polls, Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said.

His main opponent, former vice president Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), received 11.2, votes.
