Goldstar insurance in blood donation drive as demand hits record high

KAMPALA – Goldstar Insurance Company Ltd has kick-started the blood donation campaign to address the deficit of blood all over the Country in partnership with Nakasero Blood Bank.

” There is an acute need of blood in the country and everyone needs it at some point. this is why we are running the entire day with the team and encouraging the general public to give blood and save a live, ” said John Kawuma deputy managing director Goldstar Insurance.

He added: ” It is not the last of activities that we will do and don’t be shocked about conducting one soon. We are happy for people that have donated and hope that keep streaming through the whole day and any activities geared elsewhere in helping us get as much blood is welcome either individuals or institutions ”

“Our partnership with Nakasero blood Bank is long term and not about to end. We shall be glad to get as many units since blood is blood and it is important to create awareness and collect as much as possible, “said Jay Sakaria Business Development Manager GoldStar Insurance.

FACTS

Uganda annually needs about 350,000 units of blood but they raise about 280,000- 300,000 leaving a deficit of 50,000 units and for every 10 people that need blood transfusion 3 are able to get.

There have been many initiatives done to address this challenge and another blood bank was built in Mengo by Rotary Uganda and it’s Partners under the Stewardship of Past District Rotary Governor Emmanuel Katongole and recently Kirk Whalum was here for a show in support for the same.
