KAMPALA – The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has refuted rumours that have been doing the rounds that President Museveni would make him the next Vice President of Uganda.
The rumour followed President Yoweri Museveni’s visit to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s palace in Banda, Kampala last week February 5.
The meeting was attended by Mayiga and other Buganda delegates. The rumour that was spreading claimed that President Museveni would make Mayiga the next Vice President.
However, in a Facebook post, Mayiga came out and trashed these allegations saying they were not true.
“There rumours are going on that I am going to be appointed Vice President and that President Museveni met Kabaka Mutebi at his palace to inform him about the news of me being his Vice. I still have work that the Kabaka assigned me to do and that is what I am doing (now),”read the post.
Mayiga added that he doesn’t do undercover things.
During the Banda meeting, President Museveni instructed the ministry of Finance to pay Buganda’s arrears on top of returning the land titles which are still in the hands of the Central Government.
Mayiga on January 28 during a Lukiiko meeting in Mengo, described President Museveni’s government as better than Amin and Obote’s governments.
