KAMPALA – Minister for Ethics and Integrity Fr. Simon Lokodo has described the Miss Curvy beauty pageant as a disgrace to the country.
While addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Center on Wednesday, the outspoken Fr Lokodo wondered how the pageant, which has been scheduled to take place in June this year will help Uganda.
“That is the scandal of the highest order and I condemn it in the strongest terms,” Fr. Lokodo said.
He reminded the organizers of Miss Curvy event that there are many genuine and recognised strategies the ministry of Tourism can resort to if they are out of the options to promote tourism in Uganda that don’t require so much marketing.
On Tuesday, Tourism minister Godfrey Kiwanda headlined the launch of Miss Curvy pageant at Mestil Hotel in Kampala.
The flamboyant minister unveiled the new pageant during a press conference held in Kampala. Minister Kiwanda while speaking to journalists on Tuesday said a beauty pageant was launched to select “sexy curvaceous” women and the finalists will be selected in June.
“We have naturally endowed nice looking women that are amazing to look at. Why don’t we use these people as a strategy to promote our tourism industry?” Minister Kiwanda said The minister used as live examples women that had attended the press brief.
Lead organiser Ann Mungoma, believes that when these ladies flaunt their well-curved bodies, it will enhance the visibility and appreciation of Ugandan people.
“Miss Curvy is an event that will bring out the endowment of the real African woman. It is an exceptional event that will see young ladies showcase their beautiful curves and intellect,” she said The only strict rule is that only women aged 18 and below 35 are eligible to participate.
We are yet to see if the pageant will go ahead despite Fr Lokodo’s pronouncement.
