ISHAKA- The Kampala International University (KIU) teaching hospital has been ranked among the best health teaching schools in the country by the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry carried out the ranking of the best and worst hospitals at the Office of the President on Tuesday.
Kampala International University (KIU) teaching hospital Western Campus, found in Ishaka, Bushenyi was ranked among the top four (4) referral hospitals in the country.
The rankings that were made for the 2017/2018 financial year were based on indicators such as deliveries in health facilities, staffing levels, service delivery, and tuberculosis detection rates.
According to Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health, districts that include Adjumani, Moyo, Bushenyi, Gulu, and Kabarole made it to the top five districts with the best hospitals according to the Annual Health Sector Performance Report.
According to these rankings, KIU teaching hospital contributed passionately to health service delivery in Bushenyi hence emerging the best in Western Uganda.
The University administration took to their Facebook page and praised this development.
“The KIU community would like to congratulate KIU teaching hospital for attaining the 4th rank among the best referal hospitals in the country. We have also been recognized as the best hospital in Western Uganda,” stated the Facebook post.
This milestone has left many questioning whether indeed, the allegations against this institution churning out ‘Fake Medics’ is false or not.
KIU teaching hospital is located in Ishaka, Bushenyi District. The hospital is recognised by medical and dental licensing boards in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. It among others does general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, dental surgery and physiotherapy with five operating theaters.
Kampala International University is a private multi-campus university with its main campus in Kansanga, Kampala, Uganda.
