KAMPALA- The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Wednesday evening extended the criminal summons for Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake to December 3, 2018, after his failure to appear as planned.

Zaake was represented by his Attorney also a human rights lawyer Nicholas Opio.

Opiyo told detective staff that his client is still unhealthy to battle the charges citing torture allegations unleashed on him during the Arua fracas in August this year.

Police’s CID last week summoned Mr Zaake over allegations of treason and unlawful escape from custody during and after Arua Municipality MP election fracas.

In a letter dated November 16, 2018, written to the MP through the Speaker of Parliament, police say they are conducting inquiries into the said allegations against the MP.

Zaake is accused of escaping from legal custody at Gulu hospital.

The MP is among the 36 suspects grappling with treason charges that were leveled against them over allegations of smashing one of the president’s car windscreen in the procession after holding their conclusive rallies a head of Arua municipality by-election that was won by Independent and FDC leaning candidate Kassiano Wadri.

He was reportedly dumped at Rubaga hospital by unknown security men following the deterioration of his health condition, however, President Museveni said he had escaped from Gulu police cells and had to face the law.
