LIRA- Residents of Ngetta Sub County in Lira district have closed Ngetta Ginnery Police outpost, accusing police officers posted there of abuse of office and negligence of duty.

For long, the locals in Ngetta have complained that the policemen at Ngetta Ginnery outpost always abandon their work, especially those assigned to work at night.

According to the locals, most times they find the outpost without any policeman when they report their cases or are in dire need of a policeman to take care of a security situation.

Consequently, they stormed the outpost on Saturday night and did not find anyone at the outpost. Out of anger and frustration, they removed all the case files and dumped them at Lira central police station as exhibits of negligence of duty by the said officers.

Esther Odwar, the vice chairperson Tegot Village,  demanded immediate transfer of the implicated police officers by Joel Tubanone, the District Police Commander.

However, the DPC said he would address the matter and investigations are underway.

David Ongom Mudong, the North Kioga Police Spokesperson, feigned knowledge of the case. But by the time of filing this story, we were yet to confirm reports that Nasuma Naumari, the officer in charge of the outpost was stripped off his uniforms.

Early this year, the police leadership announced plans to close some police posts earlier opened under former police boss Kale Kayihura. The plan has since been shelved.
