KAMPALA – Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also a musician commonly known as Bobi Wine has shocked his fans after revealing that he is not sure whether and when his Kyarenga concert will happen.
“Dear friends and fans, I am not sure when and whether the Kyarenga concert will happen,” Bobi Wine wrote on his Facebook page.
Bobi Wine who just returned home from Kenya says that his team has tried all legal procedures to make the concert happen but the police declined to clear him.
“Our team went to the police headquarters in Naguru with a written a request for the police to clear the show and provide security on that day. On arrival, the police officer in charge of receiving and filing letters refused to stamp on it to indicate that it had been received,” Bobi Wine said.
He says the organizing team was asked to go back to the police station on Friday last week alongside Bobi Wine himself to meet IGP, only to reach, the IGP could hardly be seen.
Besides, in an October 12 letter signed by the stadium manager, Mr Jamil Ssewanyana, shows that the intended date for the concert (October 20) had been pre-booked for a wedding.
“Kindly note the stadium has two pre-booked events namely Uganda Athletic Federation workshop from 15th October to 26th October and a wedding ceremony on October 20, 2018,” the letter reads in part.
Bobi Wine says, they had agreed with stadium management and made payments for the booking for October 13 though this was later changed to 20th as the date was slated for National team match with Lesotho.
“As things stand, the concert has been left in balance.”
“We have done everything required of us by the law but it is apparent that the people in authority are doing everything possible to frustrate the concert.”
