KAMPALA– A city pastor Bishop John Ssali Lulenti together with his Jubilee Christian Life Church -Mbuya is set to dig deep in their pocket after being dragged to court for allegedly polluting the environment.

In its lawsuit filed before the High Court civil division, Duomo Hotel and Apartments accuse the church of emitting loud sound levels during their daily sermons and worship hours.

The Hotel has also sued Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) demanding that it observes its statutory mandate of maintaining a Healthy Environment by demolishing the illegal temporal structures erected by Bishop Ssali to house Jubilee Christian Life Church without an approved license.

It contends that it has decided to seek court redress after several warnings and threatened prosecution to Bishop Ssali and his Church which have yielded no results yet their clients can no longer enjoy a quiet possession of the Hotel facility.

Through its lawyers, the hotel wants court to order Bishop Ssali to pay Shs 50 million as damages for inconvenience and loss of business saying that guests have since shunned the Hotel due to the loud noise emitted by the Church.

The Hotel has also asked court to bar this church from conducting its prayers beyond the legally accepted noise levels else it creates a nuisance for its neighbors.

The High court is yet to summon Bishop Ssali and KCCA to file their defence.
