WAKISO– Two pupils of Mother Care Bright School in Nabweru Sub County, Wakiso District, are admitted to Mulago Hospital on Thursday after an object they were playing with exploded, injuring them.

The hand of Ashraf Igembe, 13, was shattered while Ronitah  Namakula, also 13 years old, sustained a ‘slight’ injury on the eye following the incident that happened at about 7:30 am.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said: “The cause was as a result of playing with an unidentified item which is yet to be established by police experts from the Bomb Squad.”

He added that the unidentified object was brought to the school by another pupil who picked it on Wednesday on his way home.

“The boy carried it to school today. The experts have picked the fragments for further analysis and investigation, more details will be availed soon,” he explained.

Police in June closed a city building after five bombs were picked from around it in a space of three weeks. Owoyesigyire said a decision to close a building at plot 66 on Kampala Road was reached on Friday after two more bombs were picked at the same facility.

Three weeks earlier, police had picked three bombs that had been dumped at the same structure in the afternoon hours.
