MBARARA– Grief and fear engulfed residents of Kitebero cell, Katete ward in Nyamitanga Division Mbarara Municipality when they found a student of Mbarara University of Science Technology dead in her room on Monday night.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson confirmed this on Tuesday evening and identified the student as Asala Villian aged 25 but a resident of Nvura County in Arua district.

Asala has been pursuing a computer-related course at MUST.

Kasasira revealed that they were called by the neighbours of Asala who peeped in her room through the window which was open and saw her hanged on the rope before they made an alarm.

“This student committed suicide on Monday evening at around 7 pm and we were called at around 8 pm, we found the body hanging on anew rope.

“We picked the body and took it for a postmortem. As I speak the body is in transit to her ancestral home in Arua,” said Kasasira.

However, Kasasira told this website that Asala according to the information they gathered, she had a mental problem in 2016/2017 where she was admitted at the Psychiatric ward at Mbarara referral hospital but later taken to Kampala and then Butabika.

“When she fell sick, her relatives applied for a dead year at MUST and she had resumed this August, but we have been told that in two weeks some unknown people stole her laptop which we think triggered her to commit suicide because her friends at MUST saw her with a rope on Sunday in her bag but she told them she was going to use it as a hang line for her clothes,” Kasasire added.
