KAMPALA– The ministry of science, technology, and innovation’s accountant Mr Geoffrey Auyit Odongu is in trouble after being arrested by police for selling land worth Shs120m and failing to hand over the land title.
On Wednesday, the Lands Protection Unit (LPPU) based at Criminal Investigations Director (CID) headquarters in Kubuli was prompted to arrest Odongu following a complaint filed by Ms Robinnah Tushemerirwe saying that she had bought land from Odongu last year in March but has since failed to avail her with the land title to aid the transfer process.
Tushemerirwe claims that Odongu was selling his land in Kyanja, which she picked interest in buying it.
“We went and inspected the land and I bought 21 decimals from him at Shs120m and he promised to avail me with the land title in a few weeks so that I can transfer it into my name but he has since been playing hide and seek games. I cannot tolerate these games anymore,” she narrates.
However, Odongu had opted to have a discourse with Tushemerirwe but it all hit on a hard rock as she refused to listen to anything with him unless he avails the land title.
“He told me he has the land title but he has failed to give it to me for close to two years. I only have an agreement which is not enough to guarantee my ownership.
“I wanted to put a caveat on the land but I found when he had already put a caveat too,” Tushemerirwe said.
