GULU– Police in Gulu has taken Edward Ssebuwufu alias Eddie Mutwe at Gulu court cell together with other suspects scheduled to appear before court.
High Court judge, Musa Sekaana on Monday ordered Police to unconditionally release Eddie Mutwe, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi’s bodyguard.
Hon. Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is the MP for Kyadondo East.
Ssebuwufu’s lawyer Tony Kitara together with Counsel Ocaya Accellam asked the court registrar to unconditionally release the suspect as per the court order.
However, the High Court Assistant Registrar, Thadeus Opesen argued that Ssebuwufu is not under their custody and he therefore cannot execute Monday’s court order until the suspect appears in court since he was brought by Police on a charge that he is yet to find out.
He said much as the suspect is at the court holding cell, he remains under police custody and court can only take over after he appears before a magistrate.
However, when the lawyers went to Gulu Central Police station, Ronald Were, Gulu District OC CID told them the suspect had left police custody and they could not execute the court order.
Kitara said there could be a person trying to block the court order from being executed and he vowed to find out who the person is.
According to Johnson Ssentamu, a brother to Hon, Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and the Manager of Firebase Entertainment, the suspect was taken to Gulu Police Station last Friday.
He says Ssebuwufu revealed to him that all along in his detention by police in Kampala he was handcuffed every time suspects sleep, and was instructed to drink much water to prevent dehydration.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, Aswa River Region Police spokesman confirmed Ssebuwufu’s detention and said together with Musa Ssenyange the driver of a grader that was caught in the Arua by-election scuffle will appear in court this afternoon.
Ssebuwufu was arrested on August 25 from Kamwokya Ssemakokiro Plaza in Kampala and since his arrest his whereabouts remained unknown until this confirmation.
