KAMPALA– Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s court has charged and remanded to Luzira prison a group of five youths for allegedly taking part in the Monday (August 20) demonstration at Kiseeka Market while protesting the arrest, detention and prosecution of the Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi wine.
Nicholas Kawagga, Muhammad Nsubuga, Abu Kalungi, Muhammad Walulya and Ismael Gulume have on Friday appeared before Buganda Road Court Grade one magistrate Mr Robert Mukanza and denied the charge of taking part in an unlawful assembly.
The suspects are jointly accused with others still at large of assembling and conducting themselves in a manner which causes people living in their neighborhood fear that a breach of peace or destruction of property is about to occur .
Mr Mukanza has sent them on remand until the September 6, as they had no sureties to stand for them.
“You have a right to bail as this offence is bail-able in any court, since you have no sureties this court has no option but to remand you,” Mr Mukanza said.
Prosecution’s Patricia Cingitho also reported to court that police investigations are still on-going.
Police and the army on Monday engaged protesters in running battles in the afternoon in Kampala protesting over Bobi Wine detention.
The protesters, chanting Bobi’s slogan, ‘People Power. Our power’, lit bonfires in the middle of roads at Kiseka Market, Namirembe Road and Kikuubo Market Lane demanding for his release.
