KAMPALA -A Mass Communication student at Uganda Christian University (UCU) who earlier on Monday pleaded guilty of producing and broadcasting a pornographic video has Friday July 13 changed her plea to not guilty

Lillian Rukundo 23, a daughter to a UPDF soldier Maj. Muhwezi Mugyenyi had appeared before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate under the Utilities and Wildlife Court, Ms Mary Babirye awaiting sentence.

She was due for sentencing today.

The senior state attorney Ms Emily Ninsiima had asked the magistrate to first watch Rukundo’s video before handing down an appropriate sentence. However immediately after watching the video and listening to the facts of the case, Rukundo opted to deny the charges.

On Monday July 9, Rukundo had pleaded guilty to eight charges which included producing and broadcasting pornographic video contrary to section 13(1) and (2) of the Anti- Pornography Act 2014.

Prosecution states that Rukundo in the year 2017 at Jordan Courts Hostel, Mukono district produced a video of herself masturbating while pushing her finger in and out of her vagina in a highly graphic, vivid, explicit and offensive/noxious manner intended to arouse the sexual feelings of whoever may happen to see it.

It is further stated that Rukundo paused for and took a picture of her naked self from the breasts down to the knees in a highly graphic, vivid, explicit and offensive/noxious manner intended to arouse the sexual feelings of whoever may happen to see it, to a friend on facebook account called Ian London.

Rukundo has now been remanded back to Luzira prison until July16, 2018 when she will be brought back to court for hearing after prosecution indicated that it has 4 witnesses to pin her.

Court will also hear the case of renowned blogger Kato Ashiraf alias Ashburg Katto who is facing charges of broadcasting Rukundo’s pornographic video on the social media.

Prosecution states that Kato on May 24, 2018 in Kampala in the Kampala district, broadcasted on the social media a picture of Rukundo depicting her naked self from the breasts down to the knees in a highly graphic, vivid, explicit and offensive/noxious manner intended to arouse the sexual feelings of whoever may happen to see it.

Last month a whistle blower tipped the Anti-pornographic committee that has just been inaugurated by the Ethics and Integrity minister Fr. Simon Lokodo.

According to the law, Rukundo is liable to a ten years imprisonment term or to be sentenced to pay a Court fine.
