KAMPALA – The Uganda Episcopal Conference, the assembly of the Catholic Bishops in the country has released a tentative funeral programme for Bishop Joseph Oyanga who died on Sunday July 22 at St. Anthony hospital in Tororo.
According to the Episcopal Conference, there will be a Requiem Mass at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral Parish in Nyangole, Tororo Archdiocese on Tuesday, 24 July 2018.
The body will then Tuesday July 24, be taken to his home parish (Alanyi Parish) in Lira Diocese where a Requiem Mass and public viewing will be taken at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral Parish Wednesday July 26.
The burial will then be on Thursday, 26 July in Lira Diocese.
The slain Bishop Oyanga was born in Omoro, Lira Diocese, on 28th February 1936. He was ordained a priest of Tororo Diocese on 19th May 1963 in Alanyi parish by Bishop Cypriano Kihangire of Gulu.
He worked in Tororo Diocese until 14th of July 1989, when he was elected second bishop of Lira Diocese.
He was ordained Bishop of Lira on October 1, 1989 and he retired on December 2, 2003.
He was succeeded by Bishop Joseph Franzelli, the current ordinary of Lira Diocese.
