GULU – The former Gulu Municipality Member of Parliament, Christopher Acire has lost a hand in a fight with a casual labourer.
A man only identified as Anywar is reported to have cut Acire’s left hand on July 3 following a disagreement over payment.
The former legislator who served in the 9th Parliament hired Anywar to tend his compound at his home in Laliya Tol Manwang trading centre, Bungatira sub county in Gulu district.
It is alleged that Acire failed to pay sh20,000 of the agreed sum and the worker lost his cool attempting to behead the former legislator. In trying to shield his neck, Acire’s left hand was cut off.
Eyewitnesses said that Anywar asked for sh80,000 but on completing the job the former legislator offered him only sh60,000. Mr. Acire was rushed to Gulu Independent Hospital from where he was referred to Kumi Orthopaedic centre for further treatment.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Police spokesperson for Aswa region, confirmed the incident and said the councillor for Bwongaweno Parish, one, Geoffrey Owiny, had reported the matter to Gulu Central Police station.
Police detectives have visited Mr. Acire at the health facility where he is admitted to ascertain the magnitude of injuries inflicted on him.
Okema said Anywar is still at large but Police is investigating the incident.
