One of the items discovered on Friday morning.

As Muslims marked the end of the Holy month of Ramadan with Eid Celebrations on Friday morning, police at around 10:00am discovered two items suspected to be bombs from a building on Plot 66 Kampala Road.

A police statement signed by Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke Oweyesigire stated that police were quick to the scene and obtained the two items which they took for scrutiny and proper disposal.

The statement further stated that police has been forced to close down the building, which they avoided to name. However our investigation revealed that the building was City Shopping Centre. Police also added that on May 26, three items suspected to be stick bombs were discovered on the same building.

“We have closed the building until further notice to give our teams time to do search and make sure the building is safe to be occupied again.” the statement reads in part, calling on the public to remain calm and vigilant, looking out for suspicious items and activities in places of residence, worship and leisure.

While speaking at the budget reading yesterday at the Kampala Serena Hotel, the President urged the public to keep vigilant at all times in a bid to curb crime by immediately reporting suspicious people or behaviour to police or use social media and get immediate help.
