Police on Wednesday launched an operation arresting dealers of second hand refrigerators operating in Katwe, a city suburb.

The operation which started at 11am saw more than 80 refrigerators confiscated.
According to police, Uganda Breweries Limited and some individual Ugandans filed cases at Katwe Police Station, accusing dealers of having stolen their refrigerators.

“There has been connivance between the employees of Uganda Breweries Ltd and some dealers of refrigerators. What happens is employees mean to supply the refrigerators to bar owners, instead sell them to the dealers at cheaper prices,” Abrahim Nuwagaba, the OC Katwe Police Station, who led the operation, told PML Daily.

When the dealers buy the refrigerators, Nuwagaba said, they change their colours and decorate them with so many things.

During the operation dealers were seen scampering, leaving their shops open.

“The owners of the refrigerators will get them once we have completed our investigations,” Nuwagaba added.
