KAMPALA:- The Inspector General of Police John Martins Okoth-Ochola has dropped ACP Hebert Muhangi as the commander of the Flying Squad unit, in fresh changes announced via a police handwritten message on Tuesday afternoon.
Mr Muhangi, will leave the unit in charge of cracking down notorious criminals and reverts to general duties, and has been appointed to head man power audit in the police human resources.
The changes have also seen Senior Commissioner of Police Joseph Obwona appointed to head Crime Investigations while seasoned detective SCP Elly Womanya has been moved from Interpol back to the CIID as deputy director for Special Investigations Bureau.
Police authorities on Tuesday confirmed the changes.
In other changes, SSP Mark Odong has been appointed as head a new division known as Organised Crime Unit, which it is understood will replace the Flying Squad. Mr Odong has been removed from the Special Investigations Unit to head this squad.
Mr Ochola also transferred CP Sagal Abraham, an experienced bodyguard and former police chief Gen Kale Kayihura’s Personal Assistant from the IGP’s office to Interpol. Mr Sagal will head the Border monitoring unit.
