KAMPALA – The Inspector General of Police John Martins Okoth-Ochola on Friday shook up the Kampala Metropolitan Command replacing Commissioner of Police Frank Mwesigwa.
Mr. Mwesigwa, hitherto a blue-eyed boy of former IGP Kale Kayihura, has been a “dead man walking” after President Museveni reportedly indicted him in a closed National Security Council meeting a few weeks before the President changed the top police leadership.
Mr Mwesigwa has been replaced by Mr Moses Kafeero, who one time commanded the Kampala Metropolitan area. Mwesigwa has been sent to head the Tourism Police under the Counter-Terrorism Directorate, the police leadership announced on Friday.
Former Kampala Traffic police commander Lawrence Nuwabiine has been appointed commander of the police Staff College in Bwebajja, replacing Mr Kafeero.
Mr Mwesigwa was appointed Kampala commander in July 2016, replacing Abbas Byakagaba, one of the most senior career police officers.
