Katikkiro Mayiga to officiate at Makerere Run 2018

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga will be the chief runner at the Makerere University Endowment Run slated for March 25.

The run is organised by the Makerere University Endowment Fund ( MakEF ) – an entity of Makerere University established in 2014 and mandated to achieve the university’s  long term financial sustainability efforts .

Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe confirmed  the development after a meeting with Mr Mayiga at his office in Bulange, Mengo .

“I thank the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter  Mayiga for welcoming us and accepting our invitation to be the Chief Runner at the #MakRun2018 on March 25. Come and join the Katikiro run for Mak Students’ Centre,” Prof  Nawangwe Twitted

The Run is aimed at supporting the Fund’s inaugural project, the Students Centre, which will be the meeting point for students, replacing the old Student’s Guild Canteen.

Mr Mayiga expressed gratitude at being invited for the occassion. “I was humbled to receive the letter signed by the Makerere University Endowment Fund Board Chairman, Dr. Martin Aliker, I appreciate the thought and I am very happy to accept this invitation. As an alumnus, I am very proud of Makerere University and this is a great opportunity to give back to my alma mater” said the Katikkiro to the delegation led by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe.

At an estimated cost of Shs15 billion, the 2,000-seater students centre is aimed at enhancing the quality of student life and experience.

The run will be flagged off at 7:00am off by the University Chancellor Prof . Ezra Suruma at the Freedom Square.
