KAMPALA- Embattled former Buyende District Police Commander Muhammad Kirumira has been given a reprieve after he was acquitted of five more charges of extortion, including one of eating a Rolex, by the police disciplinary court.
The move by the court led by Mr Denis Odongpiny came after prosecution failed to produce the witnesses.
“We have been informed by the prosecutor that witnesses in these five counts have gone missing and those who are available have refused to come and testify against ASP Kirumira,” Mr Odongpiny said, before dropping the charges.
In the dropped charges, one of witnesses had accused Kirumira of breaking his legs and eating his chapattis without pay while he was OC Nansana Police Station in 2013.
Another had accused him of extorting Shs300,000 from him. A one Meddie Nsubuga also claimed that Kirumira extorted Shs85,000 from him after detaining him for several days without trial. Three others had claimed that Kirumira extorted Shs50,000 from each one of them.
About two weeks ago, police dropped two offences of discreditable conduct against Kirumira for lack of evidence.
