AMURU–A 47-year-old woman was on Wednesday arrested by police at Bibia check point near Elegu border between South Sudan and Uganda with bags containing several types of guns. The woman tried to beat security and enter Uganda.
Flavia Akech, a resident of Enamu trading centre, Enamu sub county in Apac district who currently stays in Kampala, was found sneaking with bags packed with 13 SMG magazines amounting to 390 rounds of ammunition, 17 grenades, 16 fuses of grenades ,596 loose ammunitions(SMG) and 145 PK ammunitions in chain.
Among other included 348 PK loose ammunitions, 493 PK ammunition, 2 pistols with 3 rounds (RG make) and two pouches labelled tiger division.
She was arrested at around 3:30pm at Bibia check point, just a few kilometres to Elegu border post i Atiak sub-county Amuru district.
Jimmy patrick Okema, the Aswa river region police spokesman, confirmed the arrest and said Akech was arrested as she tried to beat the security at the check point by abandoning the vehicle registration number UAP771K Noah that was being driven by a one Vincent Otema that she was traveling in with the guns and boarding a boda boda number plate UDK 242A being ridden by Ronald Kisire.
The police spokesperson said so far, five suspects including Akech, Otema, Kisire and two unidentified persons have been arrested and are currently detained at Elegu police post pending investigations.
