ARUA–Private Arthur Niwamanya attached to 57th Batallion on Wednesday morning shot two people dead before turning the gun on himself.

The deceased were identified as Nicholas Drandu, a resident of Bondo town council and Amos Alioni, a resident of Ayivu county in Arua district.

Niwamanya also wounded a lady only identified as Alice Adribiru during the shooting spree at Bondo town council.

The 4th Infantry Division spokesperson, Maj. Telesphor Turyamumanya, confirmed the incident and said Niwamanya was recently deployed in the 57th Batallion in Arua district after he had served under 503 Brigade headquarters.

He said the gunshot survivor Adribiru is nursing injuries at Arua Referral Hospital.

He noted also such an act is as a result of indiscipline of individual soldier.

“Indiscipline actions of individuals, these are service offences punishable by the law. First of all, it combines reckless behavior, substance abuse, conduct prejudicial to good order and discipline, murder which is a capital offence,” he says.
