NAMISINDWA–There was drama as Namisidwa district residents avoided the consultative community meeting called upon by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Robert Mutemu, together with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) officials.
Local leaders, Members of Parliaments, UWA officials and the hosts were all seen around seated at the district
headquarters with no residents showing a sign of reporting.
The meeting was aimed at providing a platform for the affected people by the controversial national game park following the recent demarcation that was done by the Lands ministry together with the Ministry of Environment .
The few residents who later turned up for the meeting stormed out claiming that Mutemu never gave them a chance to voice their concerns before the UWA chief warden for Mt Elgon National Game Park Frederick Kissa.
However, Mutemu maintained that the government was committed to compensating whoever was affected by the demarcation.
Meanwhile, Kissa assured residents in themeeting that no one will be allowed to cultivate anything on the
surveyed land.
