NWOYA–President Yoweri Museveni yesterday (Friday) pledged to build a government vocational school in Koch Goma in the memory of Prince Richard Benard Olanya Lagony, a former LRA peace envoy killed by rebels.

Museveni, who was the chief mourner at a memorial prayer for the late Olanya in Koch Goma sub-county Nwoya district, said the deceased left a good legacy which the killers thought died along with him (Olanya), adding that good will always prevail over evil.

The President noted that his Aide-de-Camp, Maj. Robert Koch, who is one of the sons to the deceased is a true example of his late father Prince Olanya.

“Olanya, who was killed in 1996 by the LRA when on a mission to negotiate with the rebels, is the father of my Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Maj. Robert Koch. He had been tasked to undertake the mission together with Betty Bigombe and Okot Ongoni, who was also killed by the rebels,” President Museveni said.

“No sensible person should kill peace envoys because they leave behind colleagues who avenge the death,” he added.

The President added that government will offer assistance to families of other liberators killed for their efforts to ensure peace in the area.

He also tasked Nwoya district leaders to convene a meeting and develop a plan for the vocational school in memory of the peace envoy killed by Lord Resistance Army rebels.

The President also pledged Shs50 million to Koch Goma sub-county SACCO to boost women business activities and enable them pay school fees for their children.

The Head of State noted that the government is working hard to extend electricity to 287 sub-counties in Uganda, including those in Nwoya district to fast-track development.

“We have contracted a Chinese company to supply power to the 287 sub counties across the that have no electricity,” he says.

Prince Richard Benard Olanya was killed by LRA rebels from Cwero village in Paicho sub-county in Gulu district in 1996 when he, among others including Betty Bigombe, were delagated by government to negotiate peace with  the Lord’s Reistance Army (LRA) outfit commanded by Joseph Kony.
