SIRONKO–Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) secretary general and Budadiri West MP Nathan Nandala Mafabi has contributed Shs20 millions towards the construction of  Janani Lumum College Buwalasi (AJLCB).

This was during a fundraising drive held at Buwalasi College Chapel in Bukiyi parish, Bukiyi subl-county in sironko district yesterday (Monday).

The legislator, who also doubles as the college chairperson of the finance committee, urged people to embrace the project, which he said will help spur development in the area.

During the fundraising drive, a total of Shs22.7m was collected in cash and another Shs16.6m in pledges.

Canon Eng Elisha Wasukira, the Buwalasi college principal, said said the fundraising drive aims at soliciting funds to establish Archbishop Janani Luwumu College Buwalasi (AJLCB) to replace The bishop Usher Wilson Theological College.

He commended the people who contributed, adding that the fundraising will be an annual event to be held every 2rd Sunday of January. He said the money will be helping the governing committee in securing documentations like licence and accreditation of courses plus renovating structures.

Former Archbishop Janan Luwum was one of the prominent Ugandans who fell prey to Amin’s terror machinery. The government of Uganda recently honoured the man of God with a public holiday to be marked annually on February 5, in honour of his  (Luwum’s) contribution to the country.
